The ultimate 'break-over': Katie Holmes goes from drab to fab as she celebrates split from Tom Cruise with glossy new look (and yes, she's wearing heels!)

We are what we wear and in one super stylish move actress Katie Holmes shows that she is ready to reclaim her place as one of Hollywood's most glamorous girls.
The day after ditching husband Tom Cruise the actress swapped the shapeless jeans, lank hair and frumpy flats we have become so used to seeing her wearing for a designer dress, immaculate make-up and towering five inch stilettos.
Stepping out for the first time since the split was announced, the 33-year-old chose statement heels by French shoe brand Roger Vivier for a day of filming in New York.

And making the most of the paparazzi scrum surrounding her Katie used this opportunity to showcase a dress design from her own label - Holmes & Yang.
Katie launched the label with celebrity stylist Jeanne Yang in 2009, a luxury line aimed at 30something women with cash to burn now available in Harvey Nichols in London and Barney's in New York.

 

The £900 navy and black 'contrast placket' dress was the perfect choice for Katie's first solo work commitment: super sophisticated and proof that she isn't just a Hollywood WAG.

The chic shirt dress is a far cry from her mumsy wardrobe as Mrs Tom Cruise.

Double denim, Boden style stripes, shapeless frocks and boring ballet shoes have been staples of Katie's wardrobe for the past five years as she dressed to distract from a marked height and age difference between her and 5.7" 50 year old husband Tom.
The hair and make-up too looks fresh new too.
Defined brows, sculpted cheeks and a slick of berry lip gloss give Katie a more modern look than the  dowdy Dawson's Creek star seen hanging off Tom's arm.
