Glum Katie Holmes cuts a lonely figure as she makes solo outing to spinning class

For Katie Holmes, the last couple of weeks have been punctuated with daily outings alongside her daughter Suri.
But after being torn away from the six-year-old yesterday as her estranged husband Tom Cruise took the reins, Katie today made a solo outing in New York - and looked a little glum.

The 33-year-old actress kept her head down as she headed to SoulCycle to do a spinning class.
Katie was wearing leggings, a beige top and red jacket and carried a pair of cycling trainers in her hand.
Tom and Suri, meanwhile, spent a day out together yesterday after being reunited for the first time since news of the Mission Impossible star's split with Katie at the end of last month.
And today their adventure continued as Tom took a sleepy-looking Suri on an exciting helicopter ride.
Tom had no contact with Katie when he made a five minute visit to her apartment to collect their child yesterday morning, according to TMZ.
The actor flew into New York on Monday after finishing a stretch of filming on his new movie Oblivion in California.

It's been an eventful week for the former Dawson's Creek actress, who was involved in a minor car crash while riding in the back of a black Mercedes sedan with Suri on Monday evening when it was struck by a dump truck in New York.

 

No one was reported hurt in the incident, which onlookers say was minor.

One source said: 'It was nothing major other than the fact that it was Katie Holmes.'
Meanwhile, Cruise's older children Connor and Isabella have not been in touch with Katie since she the split.
According to People.com, a source revealed that during Katie's 'entire time with Tom, it was never lost on anyone that [Connor and Bella] do have a mother and her name is Nicole [Kidman].'

It seems Katie Holmes is settling into life after Tom Cruise in a rather luxurious fashion.
The former Dawson's Creek star, 33, has taken up residence in a lavish New York apartment following her shock split from her husband of five years.
Pictures have emerged from inside the building, which is located in Manhattan's Chelsea district.

The star's new neighbour - Christopher Hyland fabric merchant and editor of Hyland the app magazine - has opened the doors to his residence, giving sneak peek at the kind of extravagant living Katie is now enjoying as a single woman.
Hyland lives on the 12th floor of Holmes' new building. (It is currently on the market for $23 million).
It is a 12-room 4,000 square-foot property filled with photography by Robert Mapplethorpe, paintings by Hudson River School masters, and artifacts from ancient Greece and Rome, according to the New York Daily News.
Katie spent last week setting up home in her new flat, shopped for supplies at a Whole Foods in Manhattan on June 27 - just one day before filing for divorce.
The star, who was joined by her daughter Suri, purchased flowers, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, olive oil and other items, according to Us Weekly.
Katie reportedly secretly signed the lease on the place three weeks ago for a rumoured $12,000-per-month.

Meanwhile, it has been claimed Tom - who turns 50 today - stopped Katie from signing up to a 'Dawson's Creek' reunion movie with former boyfriend Joshua Jackson.

 

A source told Us Weekly: '[Producers] were begging her to sign on for a reunion movie. Tom said absolutely no way and thought going backward would be bad.
'Katie didn't care how "low-brow" he thinks Dawson's Creek is. She wanted to do the movie and reconnect with her fans. And have fun - something she rarely does anymore.'

Cruise, who was in Iceland filming his new sci-fi movie Oblivion when Katie filed the documents last week, is understood to have jetted back to California in the early hours of this morning.
The pair are set to go into battle over their daughter, with Katie willing to do 'whatever it takes' to win sole custody.
Sources say she has seen how Tom's second wife, Nicole Kidman, has been cut out of the lives of her children with the Rock of Ages actor, Isabella, 19, and 17-year-old Connor, and Katie will not let that happen to her.

An insider close to Katie - who was wary of Suri being raised as a devout Scientologist like Tom, Isabella and Connor - said: 'Bella and Connor aren't that close to Nicole, and Katie is determined that she won't be cut out of Suri's life. Bella and Connor are devoted to their father and Scientology, and Katie saw this firsthand, and this is one of the reasons she filed for sole custody.
'Katie will not be relegated to a secondary role in her daughter's life, period, and she is prepared to fight Tom in court. Katie isn't going to back down, and she will do whatever it takes to ensure that she raises Suri herself.'
She filed for divorce in New York as the courts there are more likely to grant one parent sole custody.
However, Tom is set to file a response in California and is determined to get joint custody of Suri.
The couple married in November 2006.
